Boer Goats: Our Boer goats enjoy a happy life on pastured lands where they can graze and browse as they please; we supplement at times with organic alfalfa or alfalfa pellets. They enjoy many garden treats all year long, and we us herbal remedies if needed at all times for farm and stable. Goat is the worlds most consumed healthy meat that is delicious in many different dishes! Come by the farm with your family and friends to get to know our friendly animals.

Wagyu Beef: Pure bred wagyu beef with origins in Japan produces rich varied nutritious marbling (healthy fat in muscle). Our cows come from a no stress environment ensuring only the finest quality beef for our customers. We use high intensity rotational grazing which feeds into our polyculture farm as it regenerates the soil for the next use of our choosing! We have also recently added Wagyu/Angus, purebred Angus and Scottish Highland Cattle to our herd.

We pasture all of our animals year-round between our three farms on the island. We are very serious about regenerative agriculture, holistic pasture and livestock management, rotational grazing, and doing our part to create healthy soils which in turn produce a sustainable food system. Grazing enhances soil fertility, increases drought resistance, restores wildlife habitat, and does it part to sequester carbon.

Berkshire Pigs: At Aurora Farms, our sows are bred only twice a year, and they farrow in larger pens that protect the piglets from extreme weather conditions but still allow freedom of movement. Our pigs eat fresh vegetables from farms and local natural grains.  We do not use antibiotics to promote growth, or to control or mask disease as with sub-therapeutic doses of antibiotics in feed. Nor do our animals receive added growth hormones.  All of our animals are raised naturally, organically. We use a Swedish bedding system where the pigs rest and snuggle is a protected area out of the weather, are trained to put their urine and dung in another area, and they root and graze in many woodlands and fields, and enjoy lots of extra fruit, vegetable and the special “nut treats”.

Sheep and Lamb: Our Katahdin sheep and lamb are bred for fine, sweet delicate meat bursting with flavor. Their shedding hair/wool fleece does not require shearing. They have an increased mothering instinct making them the perfect mothers for lamb breeding. We raise our sheep in rotating pastures in forested (they like to browse, especially tender evergreen tree tips which help with keeping trees limbed up) and non-forested varietal pasture areas. We bring the ewes in for lambing and feed alfalfa or local island Timothy/Orchard grass hay that we produce from our fields, or friends fields that have organic practices.

Poultry and Eggs: We raise laying hens, turkey, and meat chickens here on Aurora Farms. Our laying hens produce many dozens of farm fresh eggs a day and are happy and healthy in their free range pasture which includes an alfalfa field. Our meat chickens are raised here on the farm in mobile houses in the alfalfa field or orchard grass mix fields from chicks till fully grown and ready for processing. They eat a mixture of their favorite bugs, worms, larvae, insects and more (they are dinosaurs after all…) and enjoy live and dried mealworms, and sprouted natural and organic sprouted grains as treats.
